This is a light-hearted, volunteer-run community library with an amazing
selection of popular and classic novels, non-fiction titles and reference works.
We are especially proud of our children’s section. New books and the classics
get equal shelf space.
August at the Carson Library
The library has had
some really great donations this past month; here are just a few of them:
Legion by William Blatty is described as being a novel that
transcends The Exorcist (his earlier book) in suspense, searing
power and intensity. A young, deaf-mute boy is found horribly murdered in a mock
crucifixion and it carries on from there - not a tale for the faint-hearted!
Farley Mowat has written a book about his meeting with Claire Wheeler, his to-be
wife and their love affair. The title is Bay of Spirits, A Love Story
and is absolutely delightful (and very humorous in places). I loved reading this
book and I'm sure any Mowat fan will as well.
A writer of international espionage and intrigue, Dan Silva, has come forth with
Moscow Rules - it is "a searing cautionary tale about the new
threats rising to the east".
The Devil's Advocate by Graham Lord is an unauthorized biography
of John Mortimer (known best for his "Rumpole of the Bailey" books and TV
program. He actually was a barrister for 36 years besides writing plays, novels,
an opera, and a ballet.
We are getting more of our shelving in this month - do drop in and see the
changes. Our Yesterday's Books used book store is
now open and running - great bargains on newer books and a great selection of
older adult and children's books that are now out of print.
The library now has a Fax machine for the public to SEND faxes. The charge is
$1.00 per page in the local calling area and $2.00 per page for long distance.
Visit us at the Library (in back of the Quaco Museum); we're open from 1:00 to
4:00 every day but Sunday (and sometimes even then).
